Immunology and Genetics Laboratory - Iasi, Romania

The Laboratory of Immunology and Genetics resulted from joining the Tumor Immunology Laboratory (founded in 1986 and located in the basement of Oncolgy and Radiology Clinic) and the Cytogenetics Laboratory (from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy). The resulting lab has now a new location, on the fourth floor (850m2) of the Outpatient Service of Saint Spiridon University Hospital. The development of this unit resulted from the need to expand and increase the availability of cellular and molecular biology methods for the investigation of some high-prevalence diseases.

The members of staff are well-trained physicians and biologists who worked both in our country and in European or American laboratories. They work full-time in this lab being employed by the “St. Spiridon” Hospital, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Gr.T.Popa”, or by the Institute of Public Health and the “Saint Mary” Pediatric Hospital. In this context the major focus of our activity is directed towards providing medical services with high technicity and performance. A large amount of our effort is aimed towards supplying new methods of patient investigation by transferring advanced technology from the research lab to clinical work.
